Don't Let This Be You!!

Jennifer Sage, Spinning MI, (blog here) is taking on a viral. And I'm helping because it is something that I passionately, 110% (and more) care about.

Please, check out her awesome knock-off-your-socks blog about this subject because it's something that everyone who has anything to do with indoor cycling should read. Just click right here to get to it, and leave her some encouragement! :)

If there is one exercise program that I love, you know that it is Spinning. Unfortunately just because there are a wealth of great instructors out there! (Most of which I follow their blogs so please check them out!) there seems to be an even greater wealth of instructors who lost something along the way.

I've written before about the sense of pride and accomplishment one can feel after completing a long, seated climb. The point of the Spinning program is to facilitate a workout for the body while conditioning the mind for greatness.

It encourages focus, determination and commitment. Those three words are cognitive, not physical. Those are three things that happen because of your mind... because you set yourself up for something great.

So many instructors feel that their students are so "bored" that we must change positions every 30 seconds or add in new, "cool" moves to make it more exciting!

It's a bicycle. It doesn't need to be complicated.

In fact, it's simple. There are 3 hand positions and 9 moves. That's it. It's a bicycle, and even though it doesn't physically go anywhere, it can take you to places you've never dreamed of before.

So, please ditch the extra crazy moves, the thoughts that you can't possibly do something for more than a minute, and really dig deep to give your students a little something more.

Take a look at the following two videos and I have only one thing to say: Don't let this be you!

BTW "So many instructors feel that their students are so "bored" that we must change positions every 30 seconds or add in new, "cool" moves to make it more exciting!" I think that's the reason I had two girls walk out of my class this morning 12 minutes into it. Talk about a short attention span. Keep up the good work!
